This year, aim for good health by practicing preventive care, exercising regularly and eating the right diet for your medical needs. It’s important to remember why you are setting these goals for yourself–because you want to prevent sickness and maintain a healthy body. Here are some tips on health and wellness goals to set for 2020 that you can stick to all year long to stay happy and healthy.
Stay Fit by Exercising
Exercising is one of the best ways to stay healthy and feel good. Engaging in some form of physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day will help you in the process of losing weight and getting in shape. Try some new activities to see which exercises you enjoy the most, such as a long run, ball sports, or hiking.
Pro Tip: Go for a brisk walk during breaks throughout the day to make sure you’re getting your daily physical activity if you can’t outside of other responsibilities. Do short bursts of jogging in between if you need a push.
Maintain a Balanced Diet
Reduce your risk of health complications due to an insufficient diet by paying attention to what foods you’re eating and how they affect your health. Make sure you’re eating high-quality whole foods and avoid processed foods as a form of sustenance. If you eat a lot of highly processed foods, you risk getting too much sodium, added sugars, and unhealthy fats.
You’ve probably heard before that you should drink at least eight glasses of water per day, equal to abought half a gallon. Drinking water is beneficial to your digestive system and switching from soda to water will help greatly with weight loss. Forming good habits like this should be a new year’s goal to stick to.
Check-In and Check-Up with Your Doctor
You should visit your doctor at least once a year for an annual wellness check-up on your physical and mental health. Your provider will check your blood pressure, body weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. You can see a provider specific to your health concerns such as a heart health check to rule out heart disease if you’re feeling chest discomfort.
